The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks

Hello guys,

I thought: it has been some time that I posted something about my favorite author... So here is a new one ;)

Pages: 213
Publisher: Vision
Rating: 8,5/10

Yes, The Notebook. A classic. But not the first book that I read of Nicholas Sparks, because that was ofcourse The Last Song. This book is the typical love story: teenagers fall in love, but they get seperate of each other for a long time. And at the end, they fall in love again, with some complications. It's that basic, and yet so beautiful. This is a book you should read with a nice cup of tea, a blanket and maybe a fireplace roaring in the background in the winter. Or in the summer with a nice glass of wine in your chair with the sun upon your face, and a little breeze. The lesson of the day is obvious ofcourse: true love never dies.

The book itself was naturally fantastic. It is fast, so you'll never get bored. But what did you expect from Nicholas Sparks, he's great :) he makes over 15 books about love, but they all are different from each other, yet the same. I think that, if you can manage that, you're a brilliant writer.

And yes, there's a movie, but I think everybody knows that! Recently I saw it again, and I thought: just like in the book, so romantic :) this time, the actors are ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, Gena Rowlands and James Garner.

So that was it! I hope you enjoyed it, I did ;) and I'll be back in two weeks !

See you soon !

Before I Go To Sleep by S.J. Watson

Hello guys,

I know it's late, but I kind of underestimated the size of this book, I'm sorry. But this review is finished on time as you can see ;) I hope it's worth it !

Pages: 384
Publisher: Transworld
Rating: 8/10

The lesson of the day isn't really about the content of the book, but more about the style of the book and me reading books. I really like reading but I'm always afraid of reading more difficult books as I did before this one. I wasn't really sure about this book, but I was willing to give it a try and it was ... totally worth it ! I was really surprised because this isn't my genre, but now I changed my mind. I should read this sort of books more often. Great lesson, I should remember that.

Now, the review about the book itself. I was amazed as I told you, and it really has a reason. This book is well written, has a good start, makes the book more exciting with every page and the end is just outstanding ! You just can't believe what is happening to her at last. It is such a good plot. If you read this book, you won't sleep when you're reading the end. At least I didn't :) most of the detective-kind of books are really heavy to read (that's my opinion) but this one isn't. It isn't that hard to read it and you sure can follow at the end, because it's that good written. Once you're almost at the revelation, you'll say: oooooh, now I get it ! That's what happened to me :)

The book is a real succes. It has been published in the spring last year, and they're already making a movie ! Unfortunately, I can't tell you who's playing in it :( but I really want to see it, who's with me ?

Authors

Hello guys,

time for something different, but not that different :) you know I give reviews about books and that will not change, but maybe you're writing one yourself or you know somebody who's writing a book ? It would be an honor to read a little piece of it and comment it. Don't be afraid, I won't break it down. I'll just give some points where you have to work on, but I'll give 3 good comments for every 'wrong' comment. It's not wrong I'm looking for, just something you have to work on.

A couple of years I wanted to do this. Reviewing, commenting. I tried to write a book myself, but that didn't work out that well, so I thought: why not helping other people to write one ? So, if you or a person you know are writing a book, please send it to me in an e-mail at theyoungreader@hotmail.be (it's .be because the first was hacked as you can read in !Warning!) I'll read it as quick as I can and I will send it back to you as soon as possible with comments. I swear, no one else will read it !

See you soon !

Voor Claire by Frauke Joossen

Hello guys,

time for a new book. This book is very emotional, something you don't see everyday. This book is unique, there's no other story like this.

Pages: 312
Publisher: Uitgeverij Van Halewyck
Rating: 8.5/10

This book is not a normal one you read everyday. It's about a family who lost a daughter, a sister, a best friend. In the book, you can read three stories. There are chapters, but you don't have to read them in order. This book tells the story of a triplet, and two of the children have mucosal. Claire died of it, her sister is still alive, but knows that this could also happen to her. This story learned me that, even if you're sick, you still can enjoy live. The story tells us that the girl was still smiling the day before she died. You have to be happy with what you have, just like she did. Smile, even when you are in deep trouble. I bought this book because I thought it would be interesting to know what happened, and how the others dealt with it. It was much more than that. It was so heavy, but yet easy to read. It's hard to explain actually. You're pulled in this story, but it's a book where you don't have a good feeling of afterwards.

Deep lesson of the week. The writer did a very good job, but it was hard for me to read, many aspects were very emotional. I think it wasn't easy for the journalist to write these stories down, and even harder to listen to them. Prepare yourself if you read this book, because it's going to be quite a ride.

You may have noticed that I didn't use smileys and used short sentences in this review. That's because this is serious. This was the most thrilling book I ever read. I have a deep respect for these people, and I don't think that will change. Maybe there's a book that's even more thrilling than this one. Send me an e-mail with the title and author in it and I'll read it, give my opinion and a rating, it will appear here on my blog.

Pages and publisher

Hello guys,

You noticed that I give the pages and the publisher of the book I review.I don't doubt that you have an other number or publisher. It's normal, it depends on the country you live in and in which language you read the book. At home, I have some books in Dutch which my father has in English and those two things are different. So if I say that the book has, for example 430, it could be and probably will be an other number for you.

Just to clear things up. I don't want you to be disappointed when you read a review of mine and see it has 100 pages, you buy the book and you are surprised that it has 250 pages. I'm thinking of you ;)

See you soon !

Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

Hello guys,

time for a new book review ! Better hold on, because it's going to be magical ;)

Pages: 547
Publisher: De Standaard Harmonie
Rating: 8/10

Yes, Harry Potter. I think that everybody knows him. Probably everybody has seen the movies, I don't doubt it. But did they read the books ? Now, you'll probably say: why would you read the book if you already saw the movie, it's the same, right ? I have to answer that with a big fat NO. If you see the movie, you can't use your own imagination. All has been visualized. And if you saw the movie before you read the book, you 'imagine' the actor doing all the things and not your own creation. Charlotte has waited until she read all the books, and then she watched the movies. Respect !

Ok, the lesson of the day. There are several things where I can think of. Be the better person, always do good, trust your friends and be a good one yourself, etc. Give me your lesson what you have learned in these seven (not eight, those are the movies!) books.

Now, the reason that I gave you the cover of the fourth book, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, is because this book is my favorite. It's the most exciting book, there happens a lot in it, and the movie is the best one. Yes, I saw the movie but again, I read the book first as you can read in the post Books that have been filmed. I  read the books in Dutch, but I'm planning to read them in English ofcourse.

Ofcourse, and I mentioned it before, it has been filmed. Starring Daniel  Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint. There will be a new poll on the right, called 'Which book do you like the most'. Please vote, it's nice when I see that there are some persons who voted for it :)

I probably post something on Sunday (not a book review ofcourse), so it would be nice if you joined me again :) see you soon !

Other social networks

You probably all know the social networks Facebook and Twitter etc. But did you know that there are social networks that are focused on only books ? A good example is Bookido. But at this moment the site is only in Dutch, so this post will in Dutch, my apologies.

Disgrace by J.M. Coetzee

Hello guys,

I know I said the previous time that I read something complete different, BUT this one is even more different. See for yourself if you don't believe me ;)

Pages: 253
Publisher: Cossee
Rating: 7.5/10

This book is about a fifty-year-old man, who has strange problems and experiences some strange things too. I always want to learn something out of the books, like I said in the previous post, but there's just this thing with this one: I don't know what I must learn out of this. It's just so strange and unclear. No, it's not the book that is unclear, it is a really good book, but there's just no message for me in it. Maybe for you it does have one ? Leave a comment or send me an e-mail if so :)

Now, the book. I already said it was a good one, and it is true. But this one is different from the others, because it was a little bit more difficult than the others I read. I hope it isn't a problem ? The choice of words of the author is very clear, and yet so special in a way, it dazzled me. I just couldn't let it go. I must confess, at first I didn't want to read it, but once I got started I couldn't stop. It was that special.

And again, it has been filmed. But you know already that I don't do that on purpose because you read the previous post ;) this time the actors are John Malkovich, Natalie Becker and Antoinette Engel. And again, I haven't seen him yet. Would you recommend it to me ? Vote on the poll and maybe I'll see it, maybe I won't. It's all in your hands !

Well, I hope you enjoyed it as much as you enjoyed the other ones, and see you within two weeks ! Or ofcourse with the next post which isn't an opinion :)

Books that have been filmed

Hello everybody,

I noticed that I usually pick books who are been filmed. This post is to say that this is not my intention and it has never been. It's pure coincedence, I swear.

Ok, I'll be honest, I first saw The Last Song, but then I read the book, true story. Maybe there will be a couple of guys who'll say it isn't. That's fine for me, no problem. If you got any good ideas for books that aren't filmed, shoot ! Give me your book, I'll read and comment it. I hope you believe me. It would break my heart if you didn't :(

Lessons to be learned

Hello guys,

this post is to explain some things to you. I always put something personal in the posts, or at least try. For example: in The Last Song I talked about when I lost someone who was very close to me. And in The Solitude of Prime Numbers I told you that it is wrong to bully people and that you have to accept the people for who they are.

It's just the way I roll, I give my opinion and on the second hand I want to learn something from the book. That's why I share my idea with you . If you've learned something else, share it with me and the others and maybe we share your opinion too, who knows ?

I hope that it was clear, and that I will get some reactions or some e-mails, and see you soon !

Interactive things

Welcome back everybody, and I'm glad that you're here for my new post !

As you can see on the right, there's a poll called 'The Solitude of Prime Numbers, the movie, the book or both' . That's meant for you, and so are the others that will follow. I made this blog so I could enjoy it myself, but I also want you to have something to do, apart from reading my opinions. YOUR opinion counts too. So that's why I put these polls on the blog. I just want to know your opinion :)

So, give it by poll, leave a comment or send me an e-mail, whatever you want, and I hope that you'll get here another time !

The Solitude of Prime Numbers by Paolo Giordano

Hello everybody, time for a new book ! But today, it's a compelete different one then the previous one, so hang on !

Pages: 318
Publisher: Cargo
Rating: 8/10

This book is about two children with two different kinds of problems. The boy has lost his sister, the girl has a big scar on her hip. Read the book if you want to know how if you haven't yet :) but both are not accepted by the majority of the children at middle school, place of the judgements. People, please stop this madness.I know you can't exclude prejudgements, it has become a part of our society and everybody has them, but also everybody is a victim of them. I don't think and don't believe either that there's someone in the world who's loved by everybody and hated or just disliked by nobody. I don't think that the perfect person exist. Everybody has his imperfections, and if you just want to accept his or hers, maybe he or she will do the same with yours and everything will work out right. That's how you become friends, or best friends and maybe lovers: accept the imperfections and see yours accepted.

Enough about my lesson of the day, let's not forget about the most important thing of this post: the book. In one word: nice. If you have a day off and want to spend it in your couch, grab this book and read it with the pleasure I had. At first, I didn't know what to expect because of the title. And the first 5 chapters weren't helpful either. But then I got further and further and I just couldn't believe it. This book is amazing when you want to read something fast, but still a descent book so you can drag about the size of it. It's a really nice one and sure one for your libraby at home !

This book has been filmed too, starring Martina Albano, Alba Rohrwacher and Luca Marinella. I haven't seen it, would you recommend it to me ? And if you saw the movie or read the book, vote on the poll on the right !

Quotes of your favorite book

Hello everybody ! Yes, it's that time of the week again when I post something on my blog !

Probably all of you have a special book, that book which you can read and read it again without getting tired of it, even when you know all the passages. Maybe there's one sentence in it that means a lot to you, that has a special meaning. Mine is:

Steve Miller: Sometimes you have to be apart from the people you love, but that doesn't make you love them any less. Sometimes it makes you love them more.

And yes, how did you know ? It's from 'The Last Song' ;) and it has a special meaning because it's true. I lost someone, and I'll never have the chance anymore to talk to her again, but that doens't mean that I love her less. She is still very important to me, and I'll never forget her. She'll always be in my heart, no matter what.

So, I have been honest, now's it's your turn ! Name your favorite book, write the special quote and say why it is so special to you. Or just one, or two, see for yourself ! :) leave a comment or send me an e-mail at theyoungreader@hotmail.com. See you soon !

O, don't forget, Sunday I'll post a new book with a new opinion, read it !

Social networks

Hello everybody!

Did you enjoy the first official opinion of a book on my blog ? I really hope you did, because I was a little bit nervous about it :)

As you can see, I'm putting more and more of these like- and tweet-buttons on my profile. I think that the most of you Know what they're meant for, but for those who don't: the purpose of the buttons is that you click on them and if you've done that, a link will appear on your profile of the network you've chosen. That way, you can let people know that you've been on the blog and you liked it. You can click the icon underneath the article too, but that shares only the article itself and not the blog.

Although I do all this stuff, it has never been my intention to be like a Youtuber for example, who's begging for subcribers or viewers. If you don't want to share them, that's ok for me, that's your own choice. You put on your profile what YOU want, not what anyone else wants.

If you still have questions about the buttons or you want to add another button, send me an e-mail at theyoungreader@hotmail.com and I'll do my best to answer it or put it on the blog !

The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks

Hello everybody!

Just as I told, it's january 2012. The poll turned out to be a tie, so I've decided that the first thing I post is about my opinion of the book. So, here it is. I realized that it isn't as easy as I thought it would be, but I did my best and I hope it pleases you :)

Pages: 463
Publisher: Grand Central Publishing
Rating: 9.5/10

This book is about a teenage girl with the usual problems, but somehow these problems are different. Everything seems so much more intense, although Ronnie (the main character) has (or hasn't anymore) one thing that she and I have in common: we've lost someone who was very close. At first you don't realize what they mean to you, but when you lose them, it's like your whole world crashes. You fall in a big black hole. And when that happens, you also realize that there are many moments that you've missed and all the moments you won't share together anymore. But you know that the person you loved so much would have wanted you to go further with your live, with or without them. I cried at the end of the story, because I relived that time again, the time I wouldn't want to relive again. I cried on my vacation, where you're supposed to have fun. No concerns, no obligations, no sorrows. But I did. If there are anyone had this too, you're not alone.

Enough about me, let's talk about the book. There's always something that you're interested in. If it is not music, maybe it is boys ;) also it talks a little bit about the society of today: teenagers hanging around, falling in love for the first time ...  It's a book you can read with a nice tempo, it doesn't let you go. This book is not fast, but not slow either. It's slow enough so you have a decent book, but it's also fast enough so you have a good and readable book, worth buying or borrowing it.

This book has also been filmed, starring Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth. You should watch him, it's not as good as the book, but ... No, just see him and give me your opinion. Vote on the poll on the right of this article for example :)
